Photo-etched brass, electroluminescent panels, speakers, LCD screen.
2.5 inches tall, Too many phone calls has three components: sound, a photo-etched
brass building, and a green LCD screen. Set on the back floor of a gallery space, the tiny
building, a replica of a family business, is lit from within and emits constant noise, the
faint sound of a phone ringing. The two round speakers on either side of the building
impart the sounds going-on outside of the greater structure. To hear these noises, the
viewer must lean down and be close to the piece. That is, in order to understand the
scale of the installation, to hear the sounds as if one is there, the ear and the eye must
have direct engagement with the small objects.
